Cruise line review

Oceania Cruises

Oceania built its name on the food, and it still deserves it. Since January 2026 the line welcomes adults only on new bookings, which makes its calm, country-club ships calmer still.

The line

Oceania sits between premium and luxury, with port-intensive itineraries, long voyages and a fleet of eight ships. From 7 January 2026 it accepts only guests aged 18 and over for new reservations. The first of four larger Sonata-class ships, Oceania Sonata, arrives in August 2027.

The ships

Three sizes: the 684-guest Regatta-class ships, which reach small harbours; the 1,250-guest Marina and Riviera; and the newest Allura-class pair, Vista and Allura, carrying about 1,200 guests with the line's most spacious design.

Cabins and suites

Most cabins have verandas, and Oceania's beds are famously good. The Concierge and Penthouse levels add priority dining reservations and lounges; the Owner's and Vista suites are some of the best at sea for the price.

Food and drink

This is the reason to book. Specialty restaurants such as the Polo Grill steakhouse, Toscana and Red Ginger carry no surcharge, the Grand Dining Room is excellent, and the newer ships add a culinary centre for hands-on cooking classes.

Onboard life

Relaxed, smart-casual and sociable. Evenings are about long dinners and a show or a drink in the lounge, days at sea about the spa, the library and the pool. No formal nights.

Excursions

Port days are long, and the choice of tours is wide, from classic sightseeing to culinary outings and small-group tours. Fares often include a shore excursion credit; check what your booking offers.

What is included

All restaurants, including specialty dining, Wi-Fi and soft drinks, coffee and juices. Wine, cocktails and gratuities depend on the fare and current promotions, so compare the cruise-only and package prices carefully.

Who will love it

Food lovers who want a sophisticated adult atmosphere, lots of ports and excellent value in the suites. If you want everything included, look at Regent, Oceania's ultra-luxury sister line.
