Cruise line review

Explora Journeys

Explora feels more like a European design hotel than a cruise ship: ocean-front suites with terraces, nine places to eat, a serious spa and long days in port, with nearly everything in the fare.

The line

Explora Journeys is the luxury ocean brand of the MSC Group, launched in 2023 and growing to six ships by 2028. Its itineraries mix the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Iceland, the Caribbean and long repositioning voyages, with plenty of late evenings and overnights in port.

The ships

Explora I and Explora II carry about 922 guests each. Explora III began sailing in August 2026 as the first LNG-powered ship in the fleet, with 463 suites and 18.7 square metres of public space per guest; Explora IV follows in 2027.

Cabins and suites

Every suite is ocean-front with a private terrace. Ocean Penthouses and Residences, a bigger share on Explora III, add space, walk-in wardrobes and, on the top residences, private hot tubs.

Food and drink

Nine dining experiences, including Anthology for guest-chef menus and Sakura for Asian cooking, with unlimited fine wines, Champagne and spirits included. Explora III adds a Chef's Table and The Cellar.

Onboard life

Contemporary, quiet and design-led, with a large thermal spa, several pools and live music rather than big production shows. Dress is smart and relaxed.

Excursions

Paid excursions in every port, from classic sightseeing to private and active outings. Longer calls and overnights make independent exploring easy.

What is included

All dining, drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi, gratuities, fitness classes and the thermal spa. Excursions and spa treatments are extra.

Who will love it

Travellers who like contemporary luxury hotels and want a calm, spacious ship with excellent food, rather than formal nights.
