Mahali Mzuri

Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Maasai Mara, Kenya
Mahali Mzuri is Sir Richard Branson's safari camp in Kenya: twelve striking tented suites on the side of a lush valley in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, part of the Maasai Mara ecosystem and on the path of the Great Migration. Game drives are in a private conservancy with few vehicles, and everything is included.
Best for: Couples and families wanting a stylish, all-inclusive safari in a private Mara conservancy.
Where it is
The camp lies within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, north-east of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Guests fly from Nairobi to the nearby airstrip, about 45 minutes, and are collected by the camp. See our Great Migration safari.
Rooms and suites
There are 11 Luxury Tented Suites and one Family Tent, each about 80 square metres, recently redesigned with contemporary African style, Maasai beadwork and local art. All have air conditioning, a freestanding bath, a walk-in shower and a private deck facing the valley.
Food, spa and the rest
Everything is included: meals, fine wines and spirits, twice-daily game drives in the conservancy, airstrip transfers, laundry and Wi-Fi. There is an infinity pool, a bar and lounge with valley views, a fire pit for evenings, and the Nasaro Spa near the valley floor. Walking safaris with Maasai guides, bush dinners and balloon flights can be arranged.
The moment
Breakfast on your deck as a herd of elephants crosses the valley below, before a morning game drive with hardly another vehicle in sight.
Why we chose it
Conservancies like Olare Motorogi offer the Mara's wildlife without the crowds of the main reserve, and Mahali Mzuri pairs that with design, comfort and a warm, fun atmosphere. Leopard and lion sightings are excellent, and during the migration the herds pass through.
When to go
July to October brings the Great Migration to the Mara; January to March is dry and quieter, with excellent big-cat viewing. April and May are the long rains.
The longer stay
Stay three or four nights, then fly on to the northern Serengeti or the Kenyan coast.
