Society Islands and Lagoons

Fourteen nights among the Society Islands: private lagoon landings arranged around the weather, a marine biologist who dives with you, and not one bill from first breakfast to last.

Empty sand meeting shallow turquoise water

Route overview

Tahiti, Moorea, Huahine, Bora Bora and Rangiroa, in that order, with the ship anchored in a different lagoon each night. The route is built around the tides rather than the timetable, because in these water the light at four in the afternoon is worth waiting for.

The ship

Ninety guests, forty-five crew, a marina at the waterline and a cellar that would embarrass a restaurant. Every suite has a terrace and a butler who never once mentions the spa.

Best bits

The drift through the pass at Rangiroa, and the morning the butler had breakfast brought out to the boat because you had asked to be back before the light changed.

Practicalities

Fly to Papeete via Los Angeles or Auckland. Everything on board is included apart from flights, spa treatments and a handful of cellar labels. Book twelve months ahead for the winter lagoons.

Day by day

Two landings a day are included. Where a site is fragile, the ship goes elsewhere.

  1. Days 1 to 2

    Tahiti to Moorea

Board in Papeete, then cross the channel to Moorea and anchor off a garden where the fruit is picked for dinner.

    Stay Aboard the ship

    Travel Board at Papeete

  2. Days 3 to 4

    Huahine

A morning with the families who have farmed the same valley for generations, and an afternoon in a river of eels that no brochure mentions.

    Stay Aboard the ship

    Travel About 3 hours cruising

  3. Days 5 to 7

    Bora Bora

Three days in the lagoon with a private motu, a dive with the rays at first light and the ship to yourself after eight.

    Stay

    Travel

  4. Days 8 to 10

    Rangiroa

A two-day drift through the pass with the sharks, a pearl farm that still works by hand, and a night under a sky with no horizon in it.

    Stay Aboard the ship

    Travel About 8 hours cruising

  5. Days 11 to 13

    Moorea again

The mountain backdrops, a valley walk with a botanist and the last long lunch of the voyage on the beach.

    Stay Aboard the ship

    Travel Tender ashore

  6. Day 14

    Tahiti and home

Sail into Papeete early, disembark after breakfast and hand over the bags.

    Stay Papeete

    Travel Disembark and fly

Questions

Is it really all-inclusive?

On board, yes: every restaurant, every drink, every excursion, Wi-Fi and gratuities. Only flights, spa treatments and a few cellar labels are charged.

Do I need to dive to enjoy it?

No. The lagoons are snorkeled from the boat, and the marine biologist runs a shallow-water programme for those who would rather not go deep.

How far ahead should I book?

Twelve months for July and August; the six singles in the fleet are usually gone before the general release.
